Nah, you wont need to bring one as I have a big mig there allready. Just not set up for alloy, and no tig. Trying to talk the boss into it tho, just cant justify it yet.
Have a lathe, mill, oxy, tools etc. A fitter machinists workshop. Also a tour will be in order. hands up who have seen a printing machine...

Matt has a hoist and I guess most motor vehicle mechanic type tools.
They are just around the corner from each other so we can hop from one to another even.

Moto, what is your plans for hiding the screws? Recess them? or make up and weld protecting rings around them? depending on whats under the plate will decide I guess.

    Jeff.
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

The origonal ones had tubes welded on the back with a end plate and the bolt fit inside.
I can source some tube and maybe some washers to weld on the bottom.
Would i need any particular metal tube and washer or does it have to be steel. :?:

Not sure what I'll be doing yet..!! Would like to sort out some bash plates and some side steps. And then I would like a shelf/drawer system..and.....a supercharger   which will probably never happen. I'll see what I can come up with for a plan, but I wouldn't mind even just helping others out and catching up with everyone. Can bring along some tools for the wood butchers on the day to help out and make things a bit easier.

Honestly Justo, it's not worth the hassle just for me. Will be cool.
I'm not game to ask for the workshop but I am happy to do almost anything on the floor. I personally have most tools and I can come back up here and get stuff, that will be cool, but we've had little discussions about outside work before. His shop so what he says goes.
I dont have a problem with it Steve and Sandra. More the merrier.
Does anybody think we'll be ready to carpet drawers in a day or is that asking too much?
Do you really want us all up there Jeff?
Does anybody want to update what they want done? If Moto's is the only metal fab work and it cant be arc welded then maybe you and Jeff can duck (?) off, do that and come back for the calebrations. SSHH!
I personally dont care what we do. I'm happy to do it anywhere?!?

Steel would be better wouldn't it? Maybe a salvage yard?

Yes it would have to be steel. With a wall thickness of at least 3mm if you dont want it to squash up with a bit of weight on it. Some nice thick washers would be an advantage, flat black or gal wouldnt matter.
After welding you will need some Killrust or cold gal anyway.

We do have some square sitting in the left overs pile.
Note. I dont have workshop stands or ramps or anything like that.
But I do have a fork lift...
A nice bit of pipe cut into rings and welded around the outside would give some pretty good protection for the heads. quick and easy but not as nice as the tube method.

You're the pro Jeff, would an arc do for what Moto wants?

What about a small mound of weld just in front of the bolts

G'day there moto. I would go the ring welded on as Jeff suggested then at least the bolt is protected from every angle. Would only need to be a coupla mm longer than the head itself. edit: ok forget that, Chippy beat me to it..go with his idea..
I'll PM you regarding the bash plates.
Where is Chippy..?? Oh the first day back at work after holidays really does suck doesn't it..

                            BUGGER THAT !!!

Moto .... I used some bits of 5mm flat bar. Cut a hole with a holesaw ... weld two short vertical tabs of the flatbar, then top the tabs off with a flatbar plate ... with a hole in it for the bolt.

Super strong, hides the bolt heads ... and allows all the muck that you dredge out of creek beds to be easily hosed out.

Springs and airbags for my bus are looking like being delayed.

Love to fit a snorkel Fishnut. Been looking forward to drilling holes in someone else's car.

Matt ... I reckon it would be pushing it to try and build the drawers and carpet them all in the same day. I would want to spend a bit of time getting the runners etc working properly ... and it may need the case to be pulled apart a couple of times ... a task which cannot be easily done once it is carpetted.

What else have I missed .....

                            Cheers

Yes and arc welder would do. Good with a stick or a mig.

And moto, that would not look as nice. I can easily fab up those tubes or rings no prob.
The tube method would have to be the nicest, but more work. depending on how involved could possibly be a few test fits for example.
The rings would be the easiest, and still effective but second nicest.

Did you see them fit the plate, or did you see it before it went on? wht is under the holes? did they just use loose spacers and long bolts?

We could always pull it off and have a gander, work out a plan on the day.

Oh, and there would need to be pics for the DIY section...
