Yep .. I was telling Chuck that we've got the suspension change down to 1 hour and 20 mins .... and we can go quicker if we take the blindfolds off and don't stop to drink that six pack

OK I got the day off, well at least an "I'll see", though it has cost me big time, but I can make it and that's the important thing. Just need to know where (unless I missed it in the previous posts) and what time?

I would like a couple of front protection plates (radiator) made up, one for me and for a mate who can't make it. I have no metal skills or tools, but willing to try under supervision. Any suggestions on what to bring or where to get it from.

Looking foward to seeing some more serious work being done, may make me pluck up the courage to have a go at the suspension/snorkle upgrade later on.

                Cheers,
                Ray.

                      G'day Ray

The best way to do the plates is to start nice and easy. It'll give you a really good insight into what is achievable with basic skills and tools. So, we'll start with just the front radiator protection plates between the bar and the front chassis rail.

You need to get yourself a couple of pieces of 3 mm aluminium checkerplate (flat plate is OK - I just prefer the look of checkerplate - and 3 mm is a minimum - if someone wants to offer you some 5 mm plate cheap enough that's good too) and a pack of M10x1.25 bolts and nuts (4 per plate is enough). You should be able to get both from Bunnings.

You'll need each piece of plate to be 600x300 mm although 600x350 mm gives you a bit better margin for error. This is assuming that both vehicles have Sovereign bars. The ARB bars already have plates in place, and I've never fitted a plate to a standard bumper .... but I'm prepared to have a look.

The only other bits are a couple of the right sized drill bits and a jigsaw ... but I've already got them. More than happy to show you what to do ... and even peel the plate off my bus so you have a template to work from.

Once you start DIY I reckon you'll get the hang of it ... and your missus is likely to ring me up and start abusing me for creating a monster

Look forward to watching you create a masterpiece.

                      Cheers
                      Chippy

Ray, yeah, more than welcome. Like I said, all will be confirmed after the outing this Saturday. There is still options on where and exactly what people want done. I simply cant accomodate 10 cars so that might be a determining factor.
As for the plates, like Chippy said, they are quite straight forward and there will be about 10 responses to each answer you have.
As for the alloy, try a local boat builder. I got a huge sheet of 4mm plate (not wanky checkerplate though  ) from the local guy here and he actually wanted $5 for it. I gave him $20 for it just to keep him on side for any future favours and while it was worth nothing to him it was worth more than that to me.
And like Chippy also said, DIY is VERY addictive. Once you start, there is always something else you want to achieve. And you kow what, you can!
                              Matt
