Perth to Karijini - June 15

Hey lads

Heading up to Karijini this June fore four of five nights, do a bit of hiking and exploring up there. Plan on breaking the drive up and down by camping somewhere overnight. Don't fancy driving for 14hrs straight.

I've heard of a few places outside of Cue and Meeka that are alright to stay for a night. Just wanted to know if there were any PradoPointers out there with some hot tips on where to stay. Would prefer not to stay within Meeka itself, just a place to set up the tent and hit the hay/little bit of exploration for a few hours. Preferably, north of Meeka to make the trip the next day shorter.

Same applies for the trip back, but thinking of someplace around Mt Magnet.

Up the coast instead of inland perhaps?

Went up to see family over christmas. Spent 2 days getting there and 3 on the way back. Lucky Bay, Bush Bay, Coral Bay, Ningaloo Station, spots in between Coral Bay and Ningaloo station and plenty of other places you'll happen across that are out of the way.

Forgot to mention that this is just a short trip 5th-12th so fastest route to Karijini as possible (other than driving straight there).

If there's water there, Bilyuin pool is always a good spot to camp.

Did the same inland trip to karajini 15 years ago and we camped over nite at Walga Rock - 48 km west of cue, here a link

If wanting a quick overnight stop, Karalundi has grassy sites, camp kitchen, good amenities and shop for about 20 bucks a night.
We didn't want to stay a Meeka either when we went through last July, especially as there been a funeral for one of the locals that day.

I have camped along Neds Creek Road, before Kumarina, a few times. Nothing to see but if you head down 3 or 4 kilometres and find a quiet spot off the road you don't get the noise from the GN Highway. Heading south I usually camp just before Paynes Find, along the Paynes Find to Sandstone Road. Once again, head out 3 or 4 kilometres and find a quiet spot. Not much to see but you could scout around Paynes Find in the morning before continuing your journey.

Hey guys stopped in at Walga rock on the way up north last week and found it to be fenced off around the main artwork area with a sign saying no camping. only access to see artwork is by foot. Great spot to go and see but a shame you cant camp there any more.
