  • Pebbly Beach access in Yuraygir National Park

all the directions I have seen have the only baccess to Pebbly Beach via the tidal crossing. looking at my Hema i can see a track off the Powerlines trail then right onto the Franklins boundary trail that first heads north then switches south, this bypasses the saltwater crossing. Has anybody done this track? Ideally I would prefer not to do a saltwater crossing if it can be avaoided

    all feedback would be appreciated

They are national parks maintenance tracks that are locked off with steel poles.

Hey Gerry, we went out for a look a few weeks ago and the crossing was really quite simple and that was at about half tide (outgoing) and it was when we had all that rain (the rangers were there closing off the bottom end of the campground for flooding at the time). It never even got over the axles. The trick is to head down toward the mouth a bit then cut across and you'll find it's only calf deep. Walk it first if you're worried or just wait and watch someone else like we did. Without all the rain and on the bottom of the tide, it should be a fairly minimal puddle. I can't vouch for the back access track though but a lot of the national park tracks are gated off in that area so I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't get through that way.

I was out there two weeks ago and the water didn't touch my diffs. 15cms deep at the worst point at the absolute low tide point. In order to achieve this, once you hit the river crossing as you are heading to the campsite, turn right towards the beach and cross a little closer to the beach. If you drive straight across at the crossing, you will have water at about knee height. A beautiful spot and definitely worth going there for this campsite:

Only bad thing is timing when you leave, might be in the middle of the night if you need to go at the low tide point.
