one big thing to take into account, it takes longer than you expect to travel around Tas.
Winding roads and then you think I will just stop and have a look.
it took us 9 hrs to do about 200ks one day.
    so much to see.

Sure it will be the first trip of many, just going to have to narrow it down to the "must see's" and the "time permitting". Guess I'll miss quite a few sights but thats an excuse to go back!

We have had 2 x 2 week trips to Tassie, neither have been long enough and combined still not nearly long enough.

I would suggest you should maybe look at an area of the state and see as much as you can in that area, rather than doing a little bit all over the state.

        Cheers Andrew

Not a bad idea AJ, once the map is plotted I'll go from there.

the Hema Tasmania Atlas and Guide which we were given as part of the GTG welcome pack is great.
get a copy of that it is full of good info and the maps are good.

Kenny, my first choice would be Cradle Mountain. If you’re lucky enough to score a clear calm day (admittedly thats not often there!) and don’t mind an early start, I would thoroughly recommend getting up early and doing the walk around Dove Lake at sunrise and up to the top of Cradle Mountain. Absolutely beautiful and food for the soul. The Lake can be like a mirror and the view from the top of the Mountain is breathtaking on a good day.

If you get to the west coast the ferry trip up river from the harbour at Strachan to Sarah Island is also a good one (if not a bit maudlin) and the information about the logging teams and the early convict station is really interesting.

On the east coast St Helens and the little township of Bicheno near Freycinet NP I found lovely, although it’s a while since i was there and I hear it might be bit touristy now.

And of course no trip to Hobart is complete without experiencing Salamanca Markets, which I thought were great - not full of the normal overseas rip offs but lots of good local food, drink and crafts.

I don’t think you can go too far wrong anywhere in Tassie

Add Sheffield, West Point (take the track to the north to see some very interesting fishing shacks) to your list, we spent two weeks after the GTG and didn't have enough time, my estimate to do the list above would be at least 4 weeks and that is not hanging about. We are going back on the big lap and have allocated 4 months for Tassie.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

Half your luck with that much time available. Im sure this will be the first of many trips!!

I'll be sure to add your suggestions to the ever growing list, its going to be hard to narrow it down!!

And it will get harder once you are there.
