One reason I love living in Alice Springs is that if you want to spend a week or a weekend in the outback, you can without passing another vehicle for hours or even days. You can also fit in a qiuck day trip with your mates and families and still be within 20klms radius from town. You still have phone reception and if you feel a bit lost, just climb a hill to see where town is. This is my second trip that I've organised through PP and had different company each time. This trip Fergs and family rolled up at the Fynns Grave meeting point at 1pm or should I say 1:30pm. I haven't driven off the bituman north of here but we knew there were tracks worth checking out, hence the "Mystery Run". Once we met up and aired down we simply crossed Larapinta Dr and straight in to the dirt. The track was rather easy until we reached a cutaway that wasn't as such a challenge but more or less gave the Prados a chance to streach their legs.

Once we conquered the cutaway we stopped in awe at the next challenge ahead, an almighty hill climb.

I didnt think much about it, I had to give it a go. I gave the camera to Fergs and jumped in the driver's seat. I'd have to say my first attempt only saw our vehicle reach the half way point and receded back to the bottom. With a change of line and a bit more right foot, the mighty 95 conquered "the hill". Ferg's wife Michelle was a little overcome by it all and decided she wanted no part of it and ordered Fergs to take the chicken track. Although we both knew he would have driven it, times like this you're better off listening to the boss.

The veiw as usual was great, the kids had a run around and Fergs kept telling me, "After the suspension upgrade im doin' that hill, without the misses".

We got on our way and followed the track a little longer taking us in all sorts of directions until we met up to the track we took in our previous journey. We knew this was a slightly challenging track and since Fergs hadn't actually driven it, we gave it a go. Once we reached the rest stop we all noticed the fire in the background. Fergs was due to start work later that evening and said "It may be a long night" (as he is one of our town fire fighters).

This track has a great little lookout that 4WD Action used in the 200 series compairo with the Patrol. It's a great trek, some nice rock hopping, hill climbs, descents and a little sand driving thrown in for fun. If you get a chance some time soon I will be running a night trip on this track in reverse, should be a good chance to test out our RooLites.
