melbourne to red centre & back

Hi Mick

Yep was a tad early for the PP GTG, now im back in melbourne i wish i was back up there now thou. I would,nt mind doing the Simpson Desert crossing, but as we had planned this trip early last year with friends we had to go early..timing, timing, eh.
Coopers went well, except for some very slight damage to 1 tyre after hitting a rock at 100kph on part of the track into Dalhousie Springs, which has caused a slight bulge (hardly noticable) on the top of the sidewall just below the tread.
I reckon ive lost about 5mm or more of tread in 14,000klm, tyres have been rotated 3 times now.

Cheers

Steve,

Thanks for the feedback on the tyres, I have these (ST not ST-C) shortlisted, my only concern is their reputation for lug damage/chipping.

They cop a bagging on the forums, It's a lot of "a mate of mine" or "the guy down the road" type stuff, not a lot of first hand reports.

Tyre choice  more stress than going to the dentist...

Thanks again, sorry to go off topic.

Melb to red centre & back

Hi Mick,

Ihave Had Coopers for over 5 years now, 2 sets on my previous truck, got 60,000 + klms out of 1st set, i did get a bit of chipping after a gruelling day in the vic high country, 2nd set no chipping, the set that i have now so far so good, i prefer them to other tyres coz they have a more aggressive tread for an all terrain & i think they wear better than BFG,s although maybe a bit noisier. it all boils down to choice eh, & we have heaps these days.

Cheers

Mick,
Last year we did a trip to Broome on a brand new set of STs. The only dirt we traveld on was Tanami Rd, Bungle Bungles and Chamber's Pillar. The rest we travelled on black top. Three of the tyres chipped and looked a bit worn out for me. One of them lost a few chunks of rubber. The worst was about 2cm x 1.5cm and about 6mm deep. I wasn't satisfied with it and took that tyre to the place I purchased it from. The Cooper rep. said that this is normal for this tyre. :?:
Today I wish I bought some other brand.

Cheers Peter
