  • WA .... Collie to Harvey recce run

Well .... after spending Saturday watching the Fords win, Wallabies lose, and knowing the Dockers v Eagles games wasn't going to be one that I wanted to watch, I decided to put together a little run down to Wellington Dam and then head back through to Harvey .... via the mud.

A couple of phone calls later and I had a small crew of victims ... oops ... I mean comrades.

Wellington Dam was pumping. There's been a lot of rain up here recently.

The tracks we were looking for had all been closed off ..... and maybe that was a sign of things to come ...... but we did find some fun hills to play on.

Leachy had to do some impromptu wheel balancing.

Some of the tracks were pretty tight.

Others were just rutted and slippery.

There was even plenty of mud.

Jeff was trying out the new Coopers Drag Slicks

Then the tracks became a little more challenging.

Leachy needed a little assistance with this one ..... but by the time we reached this bit there was no turning back. The only way out was to winch.

... and Jeff had a small challenge on his hands here.

This was the result of a little snow plow work in the mud.

Thanks heaps to those poor souls who agreed to come with us on this trip. It made for a great little social trip ..... but we also had to rely heavily on each other ... just to get out.

    Cheers
    Chippy

      Good one Chippy

Things def getting muddy in the SW. A decent Winter for a change.

Was Wellington Dam getting anywhere near going over? Its a great sight when it happens, and the crowds flock to see it

Also, the powerlines hill pic. Was that the track that goes up to the TV transmission towers from the East side? It looks familiar from when I was working up that way many years ago

The water was about 2 metres from the top of the wall. Close ... but not quite yet.

We left the dam wall, went in on Leonard's Track ... and found the gate at the end closed. We turned left and climbed out of Leper's Gully and arrived at the tower. From there it was a short run down Wellington Dam Rd and then a righty onto the powerlines track. That particular hill is about half way along the section of track between the two loops of Wellington Dam Rd.

        Cheers

          .

          Nice photos Chippy

We were down that way a few years ago and the Wellington Dam was over flowing which was good to see .

Good to see those Prados being used as 'Depth Gauges " in the mud

          Cheers

The mud must have been deep, as the depth marks were even on the roof, Nothing that $20 in the local car wash with high pressure soap and rinse couldnt fix.
We went through the KFC drive thru. The girl on the window said"OMG, thats the dirtiest car I've ever seen", And the car wash crew might say "OMG, what happened here" when they see the booth I used...

I had no camera so no pics from me, But the cars all got heavily mudded up by the time we all got dragged up the last hill. Thanks to Chippy who was the only one to make it up unassisted, I was trying to get out another route at the time so didnt see it, But by all accounts there was Mud, Air, sideways action and wheels spin.

            Thanks for the day guys.

            Jeff.

Great day, albeit a little dirty and slow going at times. Thanks everyone for the fun and congratulations on surviving with no damage (other than a few marked side steps and a number plate...) Cheers to all the Chippies for the lead, the crazy run up the 2 hills so we had a winch point and Jay for being the mud-mule.

Here's a few from the lens of Mrs Fishnut.

some of the ups and downs

                      then the mud really stuck

there's a mangled number plate in there somewhere

when we got to the top there was a sign - great if you're coming the other direction, bit late for us

                      a few helpers too

Thanks everyone for a great day out.
                            Here's a few more pics.

This gives some idea of how steep the hills are

But the the hills are no match for the latest model "Chippy" winch

The "Chippy" winch comes complete with damper storage
