    Hi All

Just finished spending 4 fantastic days at Kalbarri

Left at 4am on Monday morning from Rockingham, and arrived at 1pm, Does not normally take this long to get there, but had parents driving a Delicia which is somewhat in need of fixing, so speed up was about 90k/h at best.

That being said, due to the slower speed, did get a chance to see a lot of the native flowers and plant life now out in full bloom......once the sun came up that is.

Prado averaged about 17ltr/100klm towing rough weight of 700kg camper trailer.

We stayed at Tudar caravan park, tried to get murchison but was booked out. Note for those planning on going up, rang murchison about 3 weeks prior and was told that we did not have to book, rang back 3 days before leaving only to find it booked solid, so would recommend you book in about 2 weeks prior to leaving other wise you will not get a spot, and that goes for all three parks. murchison and achorage are across the road from the river, tudar is set further back, but still walking distance.

NOTE*********Red Bluff Caravan Park is no longer operational********

OK, what to see and do.
There is the Seahorse Sancutary - They bred seahorses for pet shops around Australia, is run privately and has a good tour of the seahorse life cycle.

Rainbow Jungle - Parrot Breeding Centre
Great place to go, They breed parrots of all types from any where in the world, but mainly centred on endangered species from Australia. Have an out door parrot show (which we missed) and a whale watching tower. The highlight for myself and Kim was the fact they also have two breeding sets of McCraws and if you would like one they start at $6500 aus, they breeding pairs are $30000.

One of the other things we did whilst we where there was the Kalbarri Safari Tours, they take you out on quad bikes up the fire trails, we did the 1 hour tour, but decided that the 2 or 3 hour tour would have been better, and for those planing on doing the River Road, the quad do a far bit of the track. Would be recommended to do the quads first and get a feel for the tracks and then take the Prado for a spin.

We started to do the track on day two, but decided it would be better if we knew a bit more about the lay of the land, took untill Thursday after the quads before we tried again, and had a ball of a time.

Will post pics and comments soon, still waiting on parents to return with other camera, and sort out my pics.

Sorry about that, had to what for the old man to get back from GinGin, and have spent the last couple of days doing mods and repairs to both camper trailers.

          Ok now for the Pics

Camper set up at Tudar caravan park. Was going to stay at Murchison Station, after a PM from Leachy, however needed to have 240v to recharge my mothers wheelchair (uses it about 60% of the time, modded for camping would you believe)

Camper with full annex walls setup.

Kalbarri townsite looking down from chinamans beach

Kalbarri War Memorial. Being a defence member, I always have a look at the war memorials for the towns we visit. Lest We Forget

One of the many birds at Rainbow Jungle, An unfunded Parrot breading reserve. This is one of two breading McCraws, and could be yours for a mere $30000, or you could buy a baby at $6000. Fantastic place to visit, some very rare breeds of Australian parrot being bred here, also has a parrot show and a whale watching platform. Cost $12.50 per Adult and i think about $8.00 for kids

Also looked at the Seahorse Santuary, again fantastic place to take the kids, very educational (Do not tell them that though) well worth the look. Sorry, no photos due to last minute plan change and just decided to drop in.

          Natural Bridge

          Island Gorge

Some of the many gorges and cliffs to be found in the local area, all of these are less then 8km from town. There is a walking trial starting at Natural bridge and going to Eagle Gorge.

Kim and me racing Quads up one of the fire trails.
A quad safari will set you back $59 per person for an hour and $98 for two hours - did not get the price for the three hour sorry.
The route they take brings you up River road and many of the fire trials leading down to the Murchison. If you want to 4wd River road I would suggest you do the quads first, gives you a good idea of the track conditions before you take your beast for a spin.

River Road - Fun track to play on, goes from hard pack to soft sand in the blink of an eye, then straight on to rock.

          The Beast

The whip on the drivers side is a 5foot stereo aerial from supercheap, cost $30 and recieved 92.5fm(Fremantle) 150klms north of perth. Record stands at aerial - 1 Bird - 0, smacked a bird on River road by accident, stopped to check, the bird was alright and fly off after a minute or two.

And finally - The Loop, part of the national park and the section where you will find Natures Window, a rock formation that makes a window on to the Murchison as it winds it ways through the gorges.

Have heaps more photos, but these are the ones that have been sanctioned to be uploaded.

There are a heap more gorges, tracks, and things to do. I just ran out of time. The fishing is fantastic most times of the year, they would be the times that I am not visiting the area, The cafes are great allong with the food. Most items can be brought from the general store or IGA(slightly more expensive), most repair work can be done and both hardwares also cater for camping supplies/repairs. The fuel is about 10c more then Geralton.

Topped off tanks at Cataby, drove around for the 5 days and refueled at Geralton on the way home. Approx 3/4 tank to tow fully loaded camper to Kalbarri, slighly less for home trip. Still working out Fuel figures, so can not give even a rough idea of ltrs/100klms yet.

All in All, a great holiday and one that I am looking forward to do again, whether we all do it on a long weekend as PP or early next year when I go back up another holiday. One thing to keep in mind, Book early, no matter where you are staying, book early. Saw many people turned back at Tudar because they where booked out, and then the same at Murchison and Anchorage caravan parks.
