Lake Pedder- SW Tassie

Had a trip down the Sw over the weekend. No hard stuff but its a great campground and some speccy scenery
Takes about 2 hours from Hobart and only the last bit is dirt roads, so if your on holidays down here its worth a look.

At the end of the road is the Strathgordan dam. Its a biggy!

Those pics bring back lots of happy memories

I can highly recomend the walk up towards the Eliza Plateau, there is a hut two thirds of the way up which gives spectaular views of Lake Pedder and the Western Arthur Range etc.

I think from memory its only a couple of hours from the carpark to the hut.

I plan to take the family there in a couple of years.

Your part of the world is worth looking after.

Yep I know the hut, we had an aborted trip to Mt Anne a few years ago.
Weather turned bad and had to bail but hope to try it again sometime.

It took a friend and I three trips to Tassie to complete the whole Mt Anne circuit years ago.

On both the aborted trips we got as far as the Eliza Plateau or the bolder field on the side of Mt Anne and had to turn back. I have spent many days in that hut waiting for the weather to lift. Thanks again for the pics.

I'd recommend a side detour to Mt Tim Shea lookout , turn east down the Florentine Valley Rd (about 5k south of Maydena ), travel about 10k then turn left on to the signposted road . Last 5k very tight bends can be washed out after winter . Excellent views of SW on a good day . Note the Florentine can have heavy log truck usage and they can turn the road to slush . Abbotts Lookout on the other side of Maydena is even better, about 8k to the west ,unfortunately mere members of the general public are excluded from the track (lucky that doesn't include me) , similarly the Twelve Trees range track near Strathgordon (though you can walk this one ) .
