  • Last minute D'Aguilar Drive (Mt Mee) *Pics added*

Kel and I are going to catch up on some tracks we didn't get time to look at last time we were up at Mt Mee...
Very late notice I know but if you're bored or have nothing better to do (even if you do ) we'll be up at Mt Mee by lunch time.

UHF Channel 15 if you're around.

We'll be exploring the northern end of Loveday's Rd near...
    S27 2.6518
    E152 40.4402

It's a bit of a rainforest type forestry area...

    Maybe we'll see you there
    Cheers, Leon

Went up there with a mate yesterday on a bit of a reco. Only went up Lovedays to Archers camp ground to check it out as we had to get back in time for the football.

Pretty keen to get up there and test the tracks out. Is there anywhere to get maps of the tracks up there? Could find anything to the EPA website.

OK, so it was all very last minute... sorry Hutch. I hope the lopping was fun

Kel finished up doing his thing in the morning so we met up at the Shell at Nudgee and made our way to Dayboro. Made the usual stop at the bakery to get a coffee and afternoon tea.
This time we headed straight to the Gantry Day Use area rather than following the Dirty Weekends Tour so we could get into the new stuff as soon as possible.
We left the Gantry just on 1pm and headed along Lovedays Rd. A few minutes past 'L Traverse' and we reached the tracks we wanted to explore.
I believe it's called Oaky Pine North Break and turns SW off Lovedays Rd.
It was a lot dryer than last time... almost to the point it was slippery from the loose surface rather than the clay/mud last time.

To start with it was a long steep'ish descent into the rainforest area followed by basic plantation tracks.

Then we started taking a few side tracks.

This was the first of the steep bits...

        Kel descending...

Looks a bit steeper but no problems so far...

We continued along that track which turned out to poke back out a little further up the main track.
We followed the main track a bit further and it popped out onto Lovedays Rd (this was good as on the map it's marked as a locked gate but wasn't... which means we now have an easy out of the area if itb rains )

This was one we'll leave for another day... probably just a little loose under foot but with a few more cars on hand it wouldn't pose much of a problem.

Continuing along the main track it took a turn towards the hills... slowly climbing and finally greeting us with this...
A rather steep, loose descent... This one I had trouble walking down (and back up)

After I made my way down Kel changed his line to keep to the inside as my tail slid there anyway.

About here is where Kel lost traction for a meter or so... free slide on the loose rocks.

Strange thing about this pic... I'm sure we were still pointing up :?

OK, so once we rounded the corner we were greeted with a fairly steep ascent this time... I crawled up and waited for Kel.

Thought I'd kick up a bit of dust... just to make it look like it was hard 8)

        First go... not enough oompf

Back to the start and try again... Hmmm, it's about now we start thing 'how far up must he make it for the snatch straps to reach  '

Turn the AC off for a bit more power and a the Delica made it no problems.

Turn around and waddya know... another descent.

After we finished that leg we decided to head back to the Gantry for a spot of afternoon tea...

        Two very dusty cars

        Had an audience.

After a bite to eat we decided we'd head out via 'A Break' and the southern bit of the Dirty Weekends Tour in reverse order.

But before all that... a few flex shots

Oh, and this is where Kel thought he'd find the rollover point of the Delica... well not really but it did give us both a bit of a fright

Everyone's seen A Break, Jacky Ck Rd etc tec... so we didn't stop for piccies...
Got back to the usual air-up/air-down area by 5:15pm and after airing up and a bit of a chin wag we hit the road home by about 5:45pm I think.

A great day out on the trails... most tracks were probably rated medium I would say (during the exploration anyway) There are heaps more tracks to be explored and a little bit of wet weather would certainly up the ante.

Cheers for a great day run Kel
        Cheers, Leon

Thanks again Leon, it was a enjoyable afternoon with plenty of opportunity to test out the limitation of the bus.

Leon was a bit slow in capturing the last shot, the right rear tyre was lifter a lot higher off the ground.

Maybe next time we could organise another PP run.
