That was hard work for some reason- I guess the stress of it not coming off could lead to a great deal inconvenience for us sub- consciously got to me.
After a quick drink to replace the sweat we were on our way. After referring to the map we had and the GPS we came to some significant lands marks we could tell exactly where we were- we were only 1/3 of the way down the track, it had taken us 2 and a half hours to get this far and it was pushing 1100am and we were hoping to be at a mates place in Newcastle by 5pm for New Years. We knew then that that wasn't going to happen.
Further down the track we went into the forest that had huge trees on either side- it truley was amazing. Those washouts were the last we had for the day and only a few water crossings were left for us. We didn't come across any one down this track bar two motorbike riders. At about 1200 we came across Shellbrook Road and finally Allyn River Road which ladies well was only a short drive down to.
Finally we arrive at Ladies Well. Judging by the amount of cars and 4wd's there a few others had the same idea as us. All is not lost, we found a nice area to ourselves that had some running pools of water that we could swim in and also cook our lunch on the rocks. What a great place to visit. A refreshing swim, BBQ lunch, couple of light beers, read a paper in the shade all after being taken out of my comfort zone at the wash outs. We stayed here for a few hours before we headed back to East Maitland along the regularly used roads.
Once I got home it was a quick trip to car lovers to spray all the mud and crud off the car.
All in all it was a great adventure and we all survived, the car came out pretty good with only some faint scratching down the sides which will come out after a few polishes.
Anyway here are a few pics.
