No worries TP, there's plenty of time to think about it and make plans. Just wanted to give people a heads up so they can get organised.

              Gday Mick,

I'm keen since I can go earlier in the year and will probably have two kids in toe. Also have a 100 series that would be interested. I think I've already sent you so info on what I would like to do. Heading off this week to Broken Hill but can discuss further when we return.

                Re: Simpson crossing- Sept 2009

I put together a bit of a mud map tonight showing the trip as planned so far.

If all things go to plan, then the departure date will be the first Saturday in September (Sat 5th)

Things that are likely to/might change are:

May have extra night in the desert, Might drop the Warren Gorge camp and drive straight through.

4 Vehicles have locked in as 99% confirmed and I have several others showing interest.

                1x 120 Prado
                1x GQ Patrol
                1x 1kz Surf
                1x NM Pajero

                  Mick,

Not sure what you guys are planning to see on the way to Simpson - just a few notes from our trip:

Travel time between Coward Springs via Oddnadata to Dalhousie Springs is relativelly easy one day drive.
Dalhouse springs is good spot for camping as it got constant around 35 deg hot springs there.
If you are going to camp at Mount Dare instead of Dalhouse you might need 3 nights in the Desert unless you planning
                  to rush through.

What you have suggested was my original plan, but I've got two in the group who have never done the Oodnadatta and will want to check out every ruin/siding.

The third night in the desert is a good idea (and my prefred option) which I'll try and convince the others of.

Are there any particularly good places to camp along Simpson route I have marked out that you can suggest?

                    Thanks for your advice.

Hi Mick, If I was one of your 99% then I would be keen on a third night in the Desert and also staying at Dalhouise over Mount Dare. Other than that I think that route looks great and is pretty well exactly what I had planned in my head.

You got it pretty much covered Mick. I'll bee doing similar route in June - leaving CT in Oddnadata then going to Birdsvile for Simpson
Crossing (hopefully it will be open by then) and then on to Mout Dare etc...

If you got a bit of time on your hands you might want to have a look at a bit of geocaching on the way (http://www.geocaching.com.au)
The are a few geocaches and some nice places to visit as well along Oodnadata and Simpson Desert tracks ( I have ozi waypoints file which
I can send you if you like)

                            Cheers,

Sorry, I wasn't very clear on that... I know the Oodnadatta and Birdsville well enough so have them sorted for camps. I was hoping you could suggest places in the desert its self or is it just a matter of pulling up between the dunes and throwing out the swag?
