Re: CAIRNS CREW** day trip..NOW a 4x4 monthly shoot..
One last note, bring your swimmers. Not sure if there will be water or not but just in case, these are the 2 most likely spots and probably the best spots for lunch anyway. The Wild River is in the 1st half of the trip and Evelyn Ck in the last. Evelyn Ck looks pretty good.

Re: CAIRNS CREW** day trip..NOW a 4x4 monthly shoot..
Well the weather gods have turned it on for us today and we had a good turn out of rigs and a couple of new lads and it was KYlies first trip out in her new rig...
we left at 7ish and headed down the balck stuff for a hour or more till we got to herberton and Watsonville where we found the tracks...James C had the topo on his gps and ozi explorer on the lap top...so in we went...
then we were straight into the climbs and decents....they were steep and loose sharp rocks covered all the tracks..
kylie negotiating the ruts
heading back up another hill
this is one of our cairns mates rig...locked both ends and has all the trimmings..wicked truck!!!
towies rig
found a scenic spot for lunch
group shot..
thirsty work this driving...
down again..
...it was a great day and there was no damage to any rigs,....thanks to all for coming along...
well done to james for the navigation...thanks to our no prado mates, frank ,towie and eddie for rolling with us...
i have hundreds of pics to sort through so will post more later....

Re: CAIRNS CREW** day trip..NOW a 4x4 monthly shoot..
sounds like a great day out Cairns Crew. Good to hear there was no damage on this trip (although i was expecting to read of some!!)
I wish I had more time to get out there and enjoy the truck and the lifestyle. Ever since I bought it something has prevented me from getting out. Ah well, at least I enjoy reading about your trips...........always something interesting going on up there.
Cheers, Andy
Re: CAIRNS CREW** day trip..NOW a 4x4 monthly shoot..
Look's like you guy's had another great day. You certainly are lucky, you have some great country to play in  I am just amazed that the area you were in look's awfully dry :?: :!: Even after all that rain you have had up there
Re: CAIRNS CREW** day trip..NOW a 4x4 monthly shoot..
Here are some of my photos from the trip:
I got a bit scared to drive through some of the rough stuff, so I took the photos for this bit instead ops:
The only stuck one of the day, yes, of course it was a Nissan!
And the barbie of course! (although, I thought it was much easier just to bring a sandwhich... :? )
All in all, it was a great day. Good to meet everyone, and put a face to the name. I ended up with one small scratch, thanks to a stick flying up. Was very impressed with the first run of the Prado .
Re: TRIP REPORT : CAIRNS day trip..NOW a 4x4 monthly shoot..
Here's a couple of my pics. Also, it may have looked fairly dry in the photo's but in places the grass was that long and green we lost the track altogether. The track was just shy of 40 kilometres, but it took us all day day to traverse. I suppose we did take a long lunch break though.
The track wan't always straight either, it deviated quite a bit and intersected with old mining roads. Before the trip, I took the time to create some satelite imagery of the area merged with topo maps of the area and used with ozi explorer, this ended up being invaluable as a few times we would've ended up in places un-intended, particularly when we lost the track in over grown conditions.
Track on OZi with sat and topo map
How did that one get slipped in?

Re: TRIP REPORT : CAIRNS day trip..NOW a 4x4 monthly shoot..
Hey Guys,
Sorry for the late reply to the thread. I'm just going to throw up a few tonight and add the details when I get a chance. It was a great day and good to meet a few new faces.
Re: TRIP REPORT : CAIRNS day trip..NOW a 4x4 monthly shoot..
Great trip there. Looks like heaps of fun. You guys are lucky you have the option for trips like that that are there and back in a day.
So on this trip did the 4x4 gang take photos for the future mag run? I know there is the actual photo shot of Joey's rig just after Easter. When will this be in the mag?
Re: TRIP REPORT : CAIRNS day trip..NOW a 4x4 monthly shoot..
