Glen Helen - Ayers Rock - Alice

HI All,

Just a quick one from me, we are currently down at the rock after travelling from Alice this morning via Glen Helen Resort and then around the Mereenie Loop Road to Kings Canyon and then on to Ayers Rock for the night before heading back to Alice tomorrow. It was one of those spur of the minute things so we just loaded up and hit the road.

Mereenie is in pretty poor shape after the rains, lots of woopdy doo's and stacks of corrugations.

Anyone wanting to see where we have been and where we are tonight and follow us home tomorrow I have the SPOT shared webpage active.

Hi Mav,

I see there are several days worth of data on the one SPOT map. Is there any way to set it up with a web-page per trip? Can you save existing SPOT data and flush old data points from the webpage?

Also, what happened between points 41 and 42. No data was captured?

ops: Yes to all your questions, but I raced out and didn't do it. ops: The other oops was that when we stopped to air down at point 41 I had a brilliant idea - NOT!!!! I thought I would send an okay message to mark the point where we stopped to air down but I forgot to re-instate the tracking function and did not notice it till we arrived at Ayers rock in the afternoon.

Did the custom message feature work for you? I guess one minor fault with the SPOT is the press-button and flashing lights system. In one respect, very simple. But on the other hand, you can easily make a mistake like you did. Too bad if you thought you were being tracked, then your battery ran out and no-one knew where you actually were!

Yes it worked and yes it is easy to goof up, I just did not realise that it also turned off the track function. Now I know I wont make the same mistake again. I guess the best thing is that I know it works and if we need the emergency function it is there. I am amazed that the batteries have lasted as long as they have, I activated my unit back in September last year and the unit is still going strong. I will probably change the batteries before next outing just to be on the safe side.

Not many photos on this trip as, well, I just got sick of battling with the damn flies. :x

I did take a couple of shots for the GTG threads which I will post in the relevent threads tomorrow.

I will add an Ayres Rock photo or two when I process the other camera tomorrow.

Okay one more photo from close to where the GTG attendees will be camping, there are viewing lookouts at all the accommodation areas at Yulara. This was taken at one that is very close to the allocated campsites for te GTG group.
