On Saturday 18/04/09 my family and I tagged along with some friends for our first "real world" 4WD outing. We had only previously completed a Vic Widnam 2 day beginners course.
What a top day. We had great weather with a little bit of rain in the days leading up to Saturday which help keep most of the dust down and allowed a few puddles.
This trip is in one of the 4WD books for day/weekend trips. Sorry don't know which one as our friends gave us photocopy route sheets from the book. We came in from the Ben Bullen end and completed the trip in reverse.
First up we stopped one end of the Crown Creek Management Track for lunch. There is a info board about the area as well as some great views through the trees.

Lunch
Most of the trails were fairly smooth
There were a couple of half decent ascents and descents with the Prado completing them with the greatest of ease. The wife drove for probably half the day and gained a lot of confidence from it.
Driving along the trails you got up close and personal with some fantastic cliffs
This is the lookout to I think it was called Wolgon Valley
The track was rated at moderate but I expected more. I guess some of the hills whilst easy in the dry would be more difficult in the wet. Please don't take that as arrogance as I admit I am very inexperienced but you definately wouldn't get a soft roader down there.
We popped out at Blackfellows Hand Track and then follwed it down to a camping area with flush toilets that left a lot to be desired as far as cleanliness was concerned. After giving the kids afternoon tea at this camp area we hotfooted it down a dirt road to come out at the Zig Zag Railway at Clarence then onto the blacktop and head for home.
All in all a great day out and the kids had a ball as this was their first time off road. The young bloke was whingeing at the start saying his cheeks hurt from the bumping around:lol: :lol: but after some food in his belly that quitened him.down :wink:
