Well we just spent Saturday night at Glen Helen Resort out to the West of Alice Springs, it is one of the locations that the PraodPoint GTG will be staying at along their route.
Probably was not the wisest thing for us to do this weekend seeing as I have had a severe bout of food poisoning from last Thursday night and I am still suffering from it. I think I threw up stuff I at back in 1990.
Anyway we wanted to test out the camper trailer we are going to be using for the GTG and thought seeing as we had already booked that we may as well still go cause at least there would be ammenities on hand should I need them. Turned out I did but so did my son and my wife.
This was not our camper but where this caravan is parked was where we set up the camper trailer. They have made some changes to the powered sites since I took this and made more bays.
We set off rather late on Saturday, much later than intended so we arrived late afternoon at Glen Helen, it took ages to set up the camper trailer too. Actually the camper setup time has me a little concerned as I do not want to be wasting this much time errecting it everyday and disassembling it every morning. I am going to have to get better at doing this. 2 hours to setup a camper is not my idea of a fun time.
We had enough light left in the day to take a walk down to the gorge itself before heading back and getting cleaned up for dinner. Glen Helen is a nice permanent waterhole gorge which attracts a lot of animal and bird life. Pretty spectacular cliff faces too.
We tried to have a dinner at the restaurant but my son was feeling really off and was being a little disruptive to other patrons and I was not feeling at all like eating so in the interest of others there we pulled the pin on our dinner and went back to the camper. We settled in for a night of Star Wars, my daughter has just discovered this series of movies and is besotted with Luke Skywalker. Well she was until her mother informed her that Luke is now older than her Dad.  Her comment was oh so hes dead! ( Bless the little darling. :x )

Well it was a pretty bleak weekend weather wise, very overcast and cold breeze which lasted all day Sunday as well. The grey skies did not make me want to take any photos but I will include some of Glen Helen that I have taken in the past just to give this thread some life.
The highlight of the weekend came at 4:30 am on Sunday morning when my wife announced she had to go to the toilet and I, of course, had forgotten the porta pottie. So she goes all the way over to the ammenties block and when she returns she starts telling me how cold it is outside, almost on queue a chorus of Dingoes starts up and it was deafening. I reckon there were probably five Dingoes down near the gorge and the gorge acted like a huge megaphone and amplified there howls, it sounded more like 50 Dingoes than five. If you have ever seen the movie Snow Dogs when they are up on the mountain and cause the wolves to howl it was identical to that. Just when we thought they had stopped they started all over again. ( amazingly similar to my wifes whining actually!  )

Anyway we packed up in the morning, another 90 mins then had some breakfast before heading over to Redbank Gorge to have a look around and then came home. It was enough of an experience for my wife to decide that a soft floor camper is not the way she wants to go and she now wants a Goldstream or Coromal poptop off road model instead.
Anyway that was our weekend.
Cheers
