  • TRIP REPORT: WA Dirk Hartog Island

Back in August, a group of 10 of us escaped the Perth winter and headed north.

Rather than the standard report with a lot of text and a smattering of pictures, one of the guys put together a video, not you average home video but an attempt at a "Getaway" or similar travel story.

There wasn't a lot of tough 4wding, but it was an awesome relaxing getaway (and great fishing too)

    Check it out on youtube:

    Part 2

    Hope you all enjoy

    Cheers

Great to see that place, i used to work on a cray boat, somtimes out of Shark Bay,a long time ago, we would fish from Steep Point up along Dirk Hartog. I always wonderd what was on there, i think there used to be a salt mine out there. The fishing was great, not many boats went up that far back then, anyway after seeing your videos now i know, thanks.

Great Vid!!....... I really enjoyed it.

I would love to get up there one day(if funds permit)

Do you think where you stayed and how things are run will change much now its a national park?

        Billy,

I think it's inevitable things will change somewhat with the national park, but the existing operation should stay mostly in a similar form (they have a small carve out of the national park for tourism).

In terms of what the government might do, I'd love to see a few areas opened up to camping with some sustainable but basic facilities, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'd definitely recommend getting up there if you have the chance. Being an Island there is always a bay somewhere that is smooth and calm for swimming snorkeling or whatever takes your fancy.

        Cheers

          Great place.
I used to work for the Commonwealth Lighthouse Service many years ago and used to visit the northern end, Cape Inscription,
          regularly. Always great fishing.
