TRIP REPORT : NSW - Portland Powerlines Track

OK this trip is now confirmed for Sunday November 29th. We are going to the powerlines track at Lower Portland.

Meet at: The Ampol garage on the Putty rd. Colo Heights. The garage is about a 35 minute drive north along the Putty Rd. from the Windsor bridge crossing the Hawkesbury River.

Time: 9am, leaving at 9:30am. The track is about a 40 minute drive away.

Bring: Your 4wd vehicle, morning tea, lunch, camera, sense of adventure

The area we are going to is not real big so it won't be a long day. I've only been there once & unfortunately the area will be gated off sometime in the future. Tracks are easy to medium, will be in low range most of the time. Some tracks were a little bit overgrown with bushes but not severe so keep that in mind if you want to come :wink:

29th - daughters end of year dance concert

Saturdays are out due to kids sport.

Hey Glenn!!

Want to do the Newnes trip again but at the moment cannot get down there :cry:
However a lower Portland Run on the 29th would be a happy alternative
should be right I'll get Sheree onto the cake side of things again :mrgreen:

TRIP REPORT

Another great day out with some of the "usual" PP members! We went to an area that I'd been to only briefly a couple of times before so it was a good opportunity to drive all of the tracks.

Met up at the Colo Heights garage, lots of motorcycles here this morning.



We drove to the start of the track & aired down, then drove to the very end of the main track. From here we walked down to the point overlooking the Webbs Creek valley. A lot of dust haze around today.



Stopped at a rock platform to search for any aboriginal engravings but discovered a couple of natural waterholes in the sandstone. Some grinding grooves can be seen around the edges.



On another track we found a large rock platform with some interesting formations.







No engravings here either but found another waterhole with some grinding grooves.



We continued along the rest of the tracks which were getting a bit overgrown in some spots. Stayed in low range all day as it was slow & rough going for a lot of the time although nothing extreme. Had our usual excellent morning tea & lunch stops (thanks to Sheree for the Tim Tams & cakes!).

Finished up back at the start of the track where we aired up, said our goodbyes & headed back home.
