Last time I was at this waterhole was sometime last year and as it hadnt rained for quite a while but if you visit it now its a completly different place. Its practicaly waterworld out there at the moment. The place is so green, its magic. It takes on a whole new meaning to the outback dry senery you all expect. All I can say is what a change a weeks worth of rain makes.
Joining me on this trip was my friend Mark (120, Happy Trails) and Brett (riding shotgun with me) plus almost all our kids combine. The trip in was a little rough as the locals hadnt been in there for a week or so and we had a recent downpour the Friday before so made the tracks nice and fresh. Basicaly we were the first ones in there all weekend.
The Hugh river had water in it pretty much the whole time we traveled along its edges. The grass and trees had plenty of folige and the bird life was alive.
Once at the waterhole proper, it took no time at all to get wet. Nice fresh clean outback waterhole water, nice and deep and at a great temperature.
Its not a big waterhole by any means but it wasnt visited as much as some others which makes it a bit special, when you almost get the place to ourselfs until a lone troppy turned up with four women on board.
The pic above shows a sign and watertank in the background. This is fact between stages 4 and 5 of the Larapinta walking trail. Its a popular stop for the keen hikers doing this track. On the way back I stopped and took a few pics of the Hugh River. The spot of both the Prados is a great grassy camping spot.

The kids had an absolute ball, we did too. The driving was great, not to challenging but enough to keep you interested. It was less then two hours travel in close enough to town to do in a day trip. If your got a spare day on the weekend I recommend this trip. Caution thought scratches to paintwork likley and high clearence suspension recommended,
