Re: SA PPers Long Weekend at Bendleby March 11-14

I'm not stressed either way - might turn into a balls up if we change the location now though... Seems as the "no shows", are to do more with outside commitments (which is absolutely a fair call) more so that with the actual location too... So, I'd vote for leaving it as is - however, I'm only going to be there for the friday & saturday - so those going for the full duration should make the decision...

    How's that for slippery shoulders?

Ok, Unless all attending agree to the change before Friday night, I am booking a spot at Bendleby this Saturday. I wonder if Yasi is going to drop water there? Will make it interesting.....

Very little chance that water will make any impact other than possible closure of Link Track and Kokoda Tracks. All others should be open. Water tends to just soak in in most places.

Re: SA PPers Long Weekend at Bendleby March 11-14

I'm not at all asking that you change plans guys. I am tossing up the options in terms of what me and mine want to do. 1) Flinders will be 'very' hot if we get one of those weekends in March, and given the late summer start, it wouldn't surprise me if we're battling hot dry conditions. I would also suspect a complete fire ban around that time (more likely than not). If this were the case, then you can be certain Robe would most likely be at least 5 or more degrees cooler, and even if it were still warm, you have a beach to go for a dip in. 2) We strike luck and the weather stays mild and it turns out to be one ripper of a trip!! Of course, dry hot conditions are what Australia is all about. And no doubt that's one of the reasons we love this 'sunburnt' country. But, from my perspective, and given that I've never done beachport/robe in my car, I'm 'torn between the two', so to speak. I've always considered Flinders to be a Winter/Spring proposition, but then there would certainly be beautiful aspects to it in Summer too.

Does anyone know how many camp sites bendleby has? Are they likely to 'book-up', and us not be able to get a spot closer to the date? I would have thought they would have loads of room. In terms of Robe/Beachport, between the two, there are about 5 caravan parks, so I'm pretty sure we'd be able to get a spot there last-minute. Alternatively, we should be able to get the campers onto a beach somewhere?

Guys - you all do what you want. I understand that you would like to book a set of sites 'together' and lock it in. I'll speak to 'the-boss' and see if she wants to book somewhere now, or live life dangerously and book last minute depending on what we want to do then?

          Cheers

            Ian

I am tending to think Beachport may be a more comfortable option and like you it is on my list of places to do and see. When this trip was being considered it was one of the destinations mentioned. Guess I am saying I would prefer Beachport and head down Friday but I don't want anyone disappointed.

            Matt
It is probably a safer option for Loz. If the baby decides to come, it is closer to civilisation which means we can leave a tool bag with Lea who can deliver it and we can all head to the pub.

            Are you ok with Beachport?

Re: SA PPers Long Weekend at Bendleby March 11-14

Good point about the Baby possibly showing up!! Never thought of that. A pair of multigrips would have sorted it out up at Bendleby though ;-)

Given that I am 'somewhat' responsible for the change in plans [sorry guys ops: ] I will do the ring-around today. I'll report back this afternoon where we can get 4+ spots together, and I'll ask them to hold them for 24 hours, so we can all ring in and put down the deposit. Southern Ocean Tourist Park at beachport is very large. But, I'll try robe first as it's 40 mins closer to Adelaide.

It is possible to drive from Kingston all the way up to 42-mile crossing on the beach, which could be an option on the way home for something different (about 41 kms on beach). Would need to check sand conditions and tides on the day though as i think 2 or 3 (or all?) of us will have campers in tow?

Check this space after tea and I'll report back...

Oh, and Dave, I'm getting the kimberley kamper from coolabah campers in Golden Grove. I was going to hire one from the Barossa region, but we're not going that way now, so glad I didn't put any money down!!

Powered or Un-powered sites? Preference for power??

                          Sweet!

A powered site will save the undue stress on my generator caused by a certain companion's hairdryer. I'm sure that thing sucks power at twice the rate of the Engel. She doesn't agree that the open moon roof achieves a stylish and cheaper result...

Ian, Lea suggested you sterilize the multigrips prior to the trip. Apparently a quick rinse in diesel leaves to much oily residue and would therefore be an OH&S issue. In the good old days we would have just fixed up any slips with duct tape.

I will give the multigrips a warm-up over the gas burner. Nothing like a naked flame to sterilise (and Brand)

Guys - I have organised a booking at Sea Vu Caravan Park in Robe http://www.robeseavu.com/
This is the only park at the foreshore in Robe - although this wasn't really the reason I chose it, it just came up first in google

Sue has put aside 5 powered sites (I've already booked one for me). I'm going up Friday (may change to Thursday night at a closer date), and leaving monday. Sites were about 50 each, pretty much the same as Bendleby. When you ring tell them you are there with the Prado 4x4 club (I had to think of something ;-) ) So, I think there is a spare spot for a 5th at the moment, although they said they could probably get extras in. My brother-in-law may join us in his Hilux.

IT"S NOT TOO LATE FOR ALL YOU OTHER SA PPer's TO JOIN IN (Or dare I say it- VICs that fancy a trip over the border??)

The number to ring is Telephone: (08) 8768 2273
Ring tonight or tomorrow as they won't hold them forever.

Please confirm here once you've booked and what your travel plans are.

Like Big Kev used to say - I'M EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
