Rob, I doubt very much that you will see any locusts in the region. Wrong area for locusts.

Don't worry Matt. I did Beachport to Robe all by myself without any previous sand experience.

I have map links in my trip report if it is helpful to anyone this weekend viewtopic.php?f=29&t=8695&

Re: SA GTG: Beachport - March 11-14 Long Weekend

Nick - I heard a report that they were starting to push into the South East. Not as far as Robe maybe, but having to travel up to Murray Bridge and then around could have the vehicle hitting a few on the way? Probably wouldn't be an issue, but would you want to hit a full swarm 'unprotected'?

Looking forward to it now boys. Should be a little bit of rain down that way during the week which could harden the sand up a bit. Otherwise, weather is looking ok. Tides will be low in the morning, pushing up to high by late arvo / tea time. So, if Matt is stuck on the beach, we can only help til 3pm. Then, we're all out-a-there. Why stay and help when there is beer and bbq back at camp??

Oh, and I am NOT experienced in sand driving. I'm just following the pack. If I get stuck, it will be YOUR fault. I have already learned NOT to follow Matt anywhere :-)
All based on hearsay of course ;-)

I was just down at the Coorong between 42 mile and tea tree crossing last week fishing and there was lots of 6 foot washouts on the high side of the beach - so much so that that a 2006 Prado rolled there recently. I don't know whether there are many washouts further south from 42 mile but just be a little cautious

 We have two competitors now!!!!

Current Sportsbet odds on the first bogging are:

              Race 1
Weather is good, track is slow

              participants and odds
"This way looks good" Matt = 7 to 3 on
"I'm excited and just following" Ian 3 to 1.
"All talk no action" Rob = 5 to 1
              "Keep a low profile" Dave = 8 to 1
Please note, the quinella does not pay, especially if Ian is following Matt.

                  Guys,

I am happy to have $100 on myself at those odds, although Paul in the Rodeo could swiftly come in to favourite after being 100-1.

Few more mods to complete to it before his return,so hopefully he will be happy with what has been achieved

Sidesteps to go on tomorrow night.... anyone fancy a wroking bee, oops a beer and achat?

I would suspect one of us is more likely to bog down than the Ute, unless its the newer Rodeo, in which case they are a pretty weighty vehicle! We did the whole run 6 years ago with full pressure in a Patrol ute. Never got bogged. Wouldn't do the same in the prado.

At least with a holden around, if we get bogged we can always say that the rodeo put us off...and throw stones at it :-) Or Matt. One of the two...

Rodeos easily get bogged in the area as well. Back in January we ran into a family that had been stuck for a few hours and had phoned a friend for help. RACV was sending a local RAA guy for the cost of $250 to get them out. We had the park ranger sitting behind us and he wasn't going to help. The driver of the Rodeo though that a snatch recovery should see him as the recovered vehcile moving off before the strap was pulled out (heaps of slack) and the end result is he burried not only himself but also the recovery vehcile (100 Series TD).

They offered us a carton of beer as thanks if they ever saw us again. And lucky for us they set up their tent across from us in the Seavu Caravan Park. Off they went and came back with a carton of Coopers and a few bottles of wine.

So make sure you do this and you will be right:

Maybe i should have planned to come, I have been informed by a couple of nieghbours that we will be having 2 seperate parties, one next door and one across the road on saturday night. Both are bringing in massive stereo sets and now are going to try and drown out each other  Fortunately for us; Sunset national park is only 20 minutes from our place, so looks like an overnighter in the bush in order to get any sleep for us. will be a good opportunity to do a recce for a club trip i am leading in a couple of months.
When we get home the party goers should just be going to bed, might start up the friction saw and start cutting up some steel for sliders about then
                            have fun guys.

                            Cheers Andrew

Yes. This point is always soft so take it high up on the beach, not in the middle, or send Matt through first and drive on by and keep going down to Beachport.
