Do you know which numbered section it is in the westprint map?

Three sections are marked as very soft: 7, 20 & 23. For point 7, there is an alternate route (i.e., turn right). For the others, there seems to be no other way around them?

I would need to look on the track log tonight. Might have been around point 20 but not 100% on that. If you look on the copy of the track log I sent you, the one that heads down that way it was around 11:00am ish but I suspect the time is out by an hour due to DLS.

Lads - I'm set to go. Leaving in the arvo tomorrow. Stopping at parnka point tomorrow night, then taking the dirt roads from there. See you some time Friday.

Me, I finish work at 3, go and collect campertrailer, pack, install sandflag then help bro-in-law with sidesteps, too many beers the other night to get the drill out

Will be leaving about 7/8 friday morning

I only took 8 days annual leave last year so I've decided what the heck, ill take a day this week. The other is flexi. Work can wait. I'll only live once ;-)

Nick - was that the soft beach between Nora and Robe that you warned us about??

Bit of a mixed bag through here, went through here early Feb with no dramas at all, but tried it Feb last year and 3 or our 5 in convoy got stuck chassis deep. But high is definitiely the best line.

I'm home (arrived 2:30am this morning)...

In brief the story until I left - arrived mid afternoon on friday, off down one of the beaches for an explore after setting up the camper trailers - no dramas just a good fun play on the sand in the prados. Back for a later than normal dinner in the dark under minimal lighting.



Plan for wake up early/leave early didn't happen quiet as planned, had a late start - but the girls enjoyed the extra time for showers and getting ready...


All the kids took the time for some games and bonding, was good to see them all becoming fast friends...


Preping the cars for a day on the beach...


Picked up some bad fuel at one of the local servos in Robe (will remain nameless) - my water in filter light on and Robs engine running a little rough. On the road to Beachport from Robe (back way along the dirt roads) by 11am, and onto the beach around midday.


Nothing to eventful for the trip through the dunes, other than a heap on pin stripping on all vehicles, as well as my arb and toyota bash plates stoved in as far as the AC condensor... Awesome!

Back into the dunes (looked like more fun than a trip along the beach)...


Ian and Dave (plus support crews) pealed off from the convoy around 4:30 in the afternoon after we came back up onto the dirt for a bit. With Rob, Myself and Paul (Dave's bro-in-law) in a Rodeo continuing for the next stretch of beach to robe (bad bad idea!!!) Very soft!!! I was first bogged, Rob was a very close second... Within 100m of leaving the track onto the beach!!! Photo doesn't show it - but Rob was bogged behind me, received a snatch from a passer-by.



I overheated the automatic trying to get out (should have dropped tire pressures to 12-15 - instead of the 22psi I was running), eventually receiving a snatch out, and consequently had a very very hard time getting off the beach with near total loss of power in the soft stuff. Once back on the dirt the prado suffered near total power loss & the prado coasted to a halt...

Removed the damaged bash plates, a few very nasty comments from the wife, an air up and bonnet open allowing everything to cool, we were eventually on our way (me limping back into town).

After dinner, everything seeming ok and the car cooled sufficiently, camper hitched back up and the drive home began...

What the boys are up to now - not sure - but there was take of heading to 5 mile drift on the sunday morning - rumor has it that Rob has damaged his bash plates also since i left while enjoying a play time in the dunes!

Was heaps of fun - but i have repairs to do!!! And so do a few others by the sounds of it!!! :shock: :shock:

Due to the events of the weekend, the Trans Temp Gauge mod is now high on my list of things to do... And as such the learning curve I received from driving on the sand - i will be paying much more attention to my tire pressures also...

Nice one boys, great shots, love that soft sand!! We use 12-14 on stuff like that on Fraser, it is surprising how a few PSI make all of the difference.
