  • Trip Report: Golly's Hord in Augusta W.A - 21st-23rd Jan

Well finally got round to resizing some shots for you all from our trip to Augusta, South West W.A.
We took the family along with another couple friends of ours and their kids. We set up tent camps at the lovely Flinders Bay Caravan Park right down on the beach in Augusta.
$46.00 for a Family of 3 x Adults (including 17yr old) and two kids) pernight at Flinders.
We hired a 60 ltr Engel from Crikey Campers in Osborne Park for $80.00 for the week, very reasonable I believe and it was faultless the whole trip.
The caravan park itself is lovely. Powered sites, amentities were spotless I might add, very well kept. Electric BBQ's overlooking Flinders Bay and a great time was had by all.

    Day 1
    ------

We headed down from Perth, with neighbours trailer in tow as with 4 ladies and Golly, that's alota crap! haha.. Mind you we took a few creature comforts, lets see if you all spot them.
Left Perth around 7.30am, first stop Macca's for the kids in Bunbury for Breaky and a stretch of the legs. Good excuse for coffee for the man!
We then set off for Augusta, straight through and arrived at around 11.00am.
Once we found our spot we then setup camp. Great spot too, 50 meters or less from the beach access and BBQ area, and about 60 meters or so from the amenities block in both directions from the campsite. Both our families managed to set the tents up just right so the awnings from both tents near of touched each other and a good HQ in the middle for dinners and breakys.

Day 1 was basically just setting up, then a relax down the beach and settle in for the night after dinner.

    Day 2
    ------
Woke up to a billy of Coffee, bacon and sausages! cant get better than that.
We took off down to the Metricup Birdpark in Margret River about 70kms back towards Perth up the Highway. Kids loved it and we had a ball with the girls who had never really handled birds and to have them sitting on there fingers and shoulders they were skeptical at start, but later loved every bit of it.
On the way home we stopped off just off the highway for an icecream from Millers Icecream Experience about 4km off the highway on the left heading back to Augusta. Family owned dairy farm with there own icecreamery on site. Its about 4 weeks since open and a lovely stop for the kids to enjoy the playground and mum and dad to endulge in a little of the bad stuff hahah.... oh and the icecream too ! lmao!!!
When we got back to camp, Mum had a afternoon nap and me and the kids were off to the beach and six hours later after numerous sand castles and oceanside spa retainiing wall attempts we retired back to camp for a wash up and dinner.
Dinner was marinated fish and fried rice (no not the fresh stuff sadly, didnt even get the rods out of the holder, how sad is that !!!!)

    Day 3
    ------
Woke up, saw the skies....... Holy Poop! thunderheads were rolling in. We planned on leaving around 10.00am, but with those menacing overhead the departure ended up being 8.00am and luckily enough it started to spit then rain as we left. So very happy as I had all the gear packed away under the tarp in the trailer by then and we were off home!!!!

Some piccies of the weekend away and for sure loved it!!

Golly, I can say from experience, that you were lucky to make the 3 days without any rain. Its generally a safe bet down there that it will rain. Augusta averages 180 rain days per year, so its the type of place you pack sunscreen, hats, and raincoats and tarps.....

Your campsite looks like it was just behind where we generally camp. Up towards the 1st shower block & BBQs?

Fishing is ok for herring, whiting or skippy from the rocks or beach just in front of the park, or anywhere between rivermouth and lighthouse.
      Cheers

Nice, well done. a great way to spend a few days away from work.

Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.
