Re: NSW: Sunday Feb 20 Newnes State Forest

Well it was an interesting day :!: We aired down at the Zig Zag carpark...

....and then as usual, made a bee line for the wombat holes. They hold a strange fascination for the 4wd fraternity for reasons unknown

We then went over to another area with a short wombat hole section; unfortunately it turned out to be a case of uh-oh.....

Glen ended up having to leave with his friend & headed back to Zig Zag, hope you guys made it back home OK eventually. The rest of us continued on to a track near Farmers Creek dam where we stopped for lunch.

Then over to the other side of the mountain to enjoy some of the excellent scenery in this area

A stop at Happy Valley hill for Declan to try out his new tyres which went very well

A stop at Bald Hill for High Tea, then back to Zig Zag to air up

Thanks to all for coming along today; shame about the mechanical mishap but sometimes things do break ops:

                          Video here
                          Cheers,

Re: NSW: Sunday Feb 20 Newnes State Forest

As Glenn mentioned we had some fun at the usual wombat holes before continuing on down another trail. We come accross some deeper and steeper wombat holes which everyone drove around except Lyfe and I. Lyfe had no problems with his double locked 6" lifted Patrol, and yes he used at least one of the lockers. I had some troubles however, with wheels in the air during each crossover, and no lockers, it came down to momentum... perhaps too much? I made it about 80% through before the front-end noises started, and oil dripped..

On site it just looked like an inner CV boot gave way, but after attempting to drive out it became obvious that the CV itself had gone. Any reasonable pressure to drive would create thuds in the front. I got back to Zig Zag with a strap, and I called road-side assistance. They weren't keen on pulling out the front drive shaft, so they just loaded it up on a flat-bed truck and took me all the way home - and I'm quite pleased with that! So tomorrow it's off to a local mechanic, TBC...

                            It's a shame these vehicles don't have a 2WD option!!
