Hello PradoPointers
The Background: I work for PradoPoint member 120GXV6 and his well used 2006 V6 120 Series Prado is in a bit of strife. Several years ago it had suffered the dreaded the passenger side engine mount bracket cracking off the chassis and it was repaired by a workshop based in Sydney. Ever since then it has suffered from engine mount failures or bolts coming loose on that side, every 6 months or so. It turns out the shop that did the work didn't quite get the angles right and over reinforced the bracket, stress was still placed on this mount with cracks now radiating out from the bracket and along the chassis. It has come to the point that our new repairer has suggested that there has just been too much welding done on the area around the bracket and he is recommending one option is changing out the chassis for one that has not yet experienced this problem.
The dilemma: We have been quoted about $8000 to have a new chassis supplied by Toyota. What we are hoping for is to come across a undamaged chassis from a vehicle that has been written off (roll over?) but was has not gone through an insurance claim. i.e. we need an undamaged chassis with serial number intact that is not in the "system" as being written off.
Does anyone know of a secondhand chassis like this?
Can anyone point me in the direction of someone that might be able to source a chassis?
Brett
